Wynford Local Schools
Mr. Cox is a middle school social studies teacher at Wynford Local Schools in Bucyrus Ohio. He has a passion for teaching diversity and modeling to his students how to respect people of difficult cultural backgrounds. Even through this year’s pandemic he continually worked to provide students with unique experiences. Despite not being able to take students on field trips he learned how to use virtual reality glasses and have his students explore places all around the world. Mr. Cox also provides students with real-world experiences. Instead of just teaching about economics or having students read from a textbook Mr. Cox had his students create an original product to be presented and sold at a local market. Other ways he brings social studies to life is through engaging the students in CSI investigations and other creative projects to help build their historical knowledge while providing them with lasting memories. Whether it is from being the high school student council advisor or being on various school leadership committees Mr. Cox continually strives to improve his school. He has also made a lasting impact on his students by being one of the rare representations of the LGBTQ+ community in his rural school district.
