Kayla has been a leader in her school promoting mental health and advocating for her students needs. As a School Psychologist she’s had to lead two schools through multiple tragic events where students and faculty were lost to needless violence in the community. She’s shown tremendous strength by being there to support her students and fellow faculty members during those times. In the end the psychologist is the last line of defense and she’s taken it upon herself to be there for everyone. Being that she works for a underfunded inner city school, giving the children experiences outside of that environment is crucial to expanding their horizons. She’s spent all year hosting fundraisers and activities to send these kids to places they’ve never been before. She’s truly a selfless person who wants to be a positive force in the lives of those around her. Kayla leads with love. She does what she does because of her love for the children and community she works in. If there was ever an educator who expects nothing in return it’s Kayla. I hope this nomination will help her receive some of the love she’s put into the world.
